One and One story: Switch it up a little.

One and one story is a simple game found on the popular minigame site Miniclip. the game itself is only short, taking up maybe 20 minutes of your time. And yet it has an emotional depth to it that i found very interesting.

The basic concept of the game is that the player controls two characters. And must bring them together in each stage. What makes it interesting is that this core mechanic of controlling two characters changes repeatedly throughout the game.

At first the player switches between the characters with a press of a button. Later the only way to control the female character is to stand in front of her and have her run towards you. Later still the characters are both controlled simultaneously with the same controls. This switching up of the core gameplay system keeps the gameplay interesting and fresh throughout the whole experience, as well as providing an apt analogue of the stages in the characters relationship.

In the final stages of the game the mechanic returns to its original state of being able to switch between the two freely. but the entire scene is in darkness. The player must use the light emitted by one character to guide the other. Yet again showing a good metaphor of the relationship between our two protagonists.

Overall I would rate this game very highly for its artistic and symbolic content alone. On top of this the gameplay is very satisfying and i can see a lot of talent in the design of the individual puzzles as well as the way the sections of the game fit together.

9/10
